Shepherding & Discipling Ministry Overview
One of Blessings Cultural Mission Fellowship’s (BCMF) core ministries is the long-term cultivation of kingdom workers. Since 1996, BCMF has established the Theological Scholarship Program to support seminary students who share the vision of cultural mission and are committed to serving within the soil of Chinese culture. Each year, six to seven students receive support; as of 2023, a total of 60 students have been nurtured through this program. These students are known as the “BCMF Family.” BCMF is committed to walking alongside them faithfully and steadfastly.
As the proverb says, “It takes ten years to grow a tree, but a hundred years to cultivate a person.” Raising up faithful servants for God’s kingdom is never accomplished overnight; it requires sustained commitment. While financial assistance is valuable, emotional and spiritual care is often even more essential. The students BCMF supports study at various seminaries. During their years of preparation, in addition to financial support, BCMF encourages and sustains them through regular contact, faithful intercession, visits from the president, and monthly letters in which the students share their journey.
Each summer, we host an annual Blessings Family Retreat, where current students, alumni, board members, and staff gather together. Participants share their experiences of following the Lord and exchange reflections from ministry. It is a treasured time of unity and mutual encouragement. Smaller alumni retreats are also organized in Asia and other regions to continue strengthening and supporting graduates.
With the addition of full-time staff dedicated to shepherding and care, the breadth and depth of this ministry have steadily expanded. In breadth, care now extends beyond the BCMF Family to include spiritual leaders who have served faithfully yet find themselves physically, emotionally, or spiritually depleted—even approaching burnout.
In depth, our commitment goes beyond listening and understanding, respect and acceptance, empathy and encouragement. Practical and tangible support is also offered. Like the Good Samaritan in Luke 10, BCMF seeks to care for those wounded along the road—providing attentive support while encouraging renewal and growth so that body, mind, and spirit may be restored.
To pursue holistic care for the whole person, BCMF partners with churches and gospel organizations. May the Lord bless this shared endeavor.
